Church Music License
church music license

Is it legal to post sound clips of suggested wedding music (played by our organist) on a church web site?
Our church organist wants to put some sound clips up on our church web site, so prospective brides can listen to them and pick music for their wedding. Some of the songs are public domain, and some aren’t. Our church has legal license to use the sheet music that he’ll be playing from, but I’ve heard there are some licensing issues involved with putting music clips up on a web site. Is just listening to them considered a download? What other questions haven’t I thought of? I’ve tried researching this on several sites (ascap, bmi, harry fox), and I’m not coming up with anything definitive. If you answer, please point me to a web site or other resource that has definitive information. Thanks!
Short clips, under 30 seconds, are fair use.
