many people believe that the lyrics of todays rock music encourage negative actions?
like drug use, devil worship, suicide, violence, and other anti-social behavior. do you believe that song lyrics pose a real threat to young people.
it is an essay question and i am having some trouble starting it…please help!!
In my opinion, absolutely, entertainment media can have a tremendous influence on behavior. People, and especially young people, acquire their social behavior through imitation and the desire to fit in, as the marketing industry and the recording industry very well understand. Song lyrics are often violent and negative because these feelings are easy to sell to young people and immensely profitable to the recording industry.
I am far too lazy to do your research for you, but if I were tasked with writing an essay about this, I think I would start with Internet searches concerning personality development, the influence of popular culture on personality, and the use of music, oratory, and movies in mass psychology.
Perhaps you would want to answer questions like:
Is modern commercial rock music predominantly negative, and why or why not?
What influence do popular cultural figures have on behavior? Do people try to imitate their behavior, appearance, message, and lifestyle?
How does hearing rock music of one kind or another affect your own immediate mood?
How influential was rock music in various cultural movements, such as the co-called drug culture of the 1960s and 1970s, the anti-Vietnam movement, the free love movement, and many others?
Why do parishioners sing hymns? Why do soldiers march to martial music?
